Hello Everyone,
today i had a crazy awesome day so i thought i would tell you about it:)
For my dental assisting class we have to go to 5 different specialties and observe for 3 hours.
i already went to a pediatric dentist (which was crazy and i learned that i don't want to work there)
and today i went to a periodontist(so i still have oral surgeon, orthodontist, and endodontist)
perio means "around the teeth" so its a specialist that deals with all the structures around teeth.
today i happened to be able to observe a bone graft, gum graft, and a extraction.
the bone graft and gum graft were CRAZY cause what he did was cut the gums with a barred barker (a.k.a scalpel) and then open them up so you could see the bone!!! and the patient was awake this whole time!! it was so crazy. and then he put bone in and then donor gum tissue(which was white) and then sewed it back up!
It made me kinda light headed.
And the extraction was really gross too because you could hear all the poping and stuff.
But overall it was awesome and i would LOVE to work at a perio office:)
oh and by the way i passed all my finals with a 92%!!!
and we got this cake:)
Even though I heard this story in person, it still gives me goosebumps! I don't know if I could see all this stuff and not lose it :) Good job on your finals! Any dental office would be so lucky to get you! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteGood work! And you just made me sick to my stomach right before dinner. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteHooray. I think. I think its funny you find all that stuff cool. Tony did some of that stuff with Bryan and said it made him nervous until he realized that patient wasn't feeling any pain. Then he was fine, and sucked up all the blood and gunk with the sucker-hose-thing...I'm real proud that you passed so well too!! Good work mine sister!!
